Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City-The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in collaboration with the National Youth Commission launched the 2nd National Youth Leaders’ Congress (NYLC) from May 28 to 31, 2014 at the First Pacific Leadership Academy in Antipolo, Rizal.
The activity aims to establish unity and strengthen the collaboration among youth organization across the country.
Attending the opening ceremony today is The AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, J7, Major General Lysander Suerte together with the newly-appointed Chairman of the National Youth Commission, Gregorio Ramon Tingson.
In his opening speech, MGen Suerte said “the AFP has always been supportive of the endeavors of the youth, for the future of the country is in their hands. We hope that after the NYLC, the participating youth leaders will be more inspired to be of service to your community.”
“We at the AFP also take inspiration from the youth, especially from your idealism and energy that is uniquely the youth’s,” MGen Suerte added.
This years’ NYLC is the second national level youth leadership congress organized by the AFP following the 1st National Youth Congress held in Bulacan last December 2013.
Anchored with the theme “Unity in Diversity: Creating Strong Alliances Towards Nation-Building”, the activity is part of the AFP’s recognition of the youth’s important role in nation-building. It is also the opportunity that the AFP employs to harness youth’s activism, idealism, and enthusiasm for nation building that would help prevent their recruitment and exploitation.
The NYLC is a three-day event with team-building activities that will enhance the knowledge of the youth regarding their role in nation-building, develop their patriotic leadership, and build up their nationalism and patriotism that will serve as a morale booster. It will also discuss the different advocacies in leadership, public service, sports development and the best practices in youth leadership.
